I was standing in the middle of my parent’s garage, on top of our upside-down dining room table, surveying my entire life packed in around me.

While I was searching for something to wear to work the next morning, all I could think was it wasn’t meant to be like this.

Most people can probably identify with that moment in some way. It may not be an entire life packed into a garage moment, but so often things are not quite how we expect them to be.

It can be small things, such as having a conversation that didn’t quite happen the way we thought it would. Often, it can be big things. Things like holding your screaming new-born at 3am for the tenth morning in a row. Things like going through a rough patch in your marriage or experiencing financial stress.

The thing is though, often those moments are in the middle of the journey. They are on the way to something amazing. They are a signpost, but not the final destination. I have found that those moments in my life are the ones that produce the most growth and change.

If I had stayed camped out at my parent’s house, stuck in that moment, I would have missed out on the incredible blessings that came out of that situation. It’s always messy in the middle. Sometimes we have to walk through the chaos before the full picture becomes obvious.
